"...clamoring to see him again."

Not only are the photographs divine, but James made both my four year old girl and eight year old boy feel so special that they are clamoring to see him again. He has a wonderful gift for working with kids: a photographer's eye and a truly warm heart. I recommend him without reservation.

"...the best part was when I saw the finished product..."

Well thank god after over 10 years of pursuing acting, I finally found a photographer who I actually had a blast working with while doing headshots! Not only did I have a great time but the best part was when I saw the finished product, for once my headshot actually really felt and looked like me!

Now I'm officially spoiled by the work of James Oligney!

"James, you're insanely talented! You think and feel deeply about what you're doing and that is what really comes out in your work!"

"...fun, exhilarating and comfortable..."

As a former professional model and performer, I would say out of all the photographers I've worked with, James Oligney is hands down the best for several reasons. James has a welcoming and laid-back approach, yet he is creative and has a strong, dedicated sense of professionalism I have yet to find elsewhere. Shooting with James is fun, exhilarating and comfortable and I know he will capture images that speak truthfully about the subject. When it comes to a good head shot, he is the "Go-to-Guy" because you can count on the photograph being a genuine representation of the individual placed before the lens. As an actor you want to look like you. Never will James take a photograph that leaves a director stunned saying the same old line..."Wait, who is this? Is this you?" James Oligney's work is unique because it leaves a lasting impression and will be remembered.

"His manner...is graceful, easy and honest."

In my opinion the term "Artist" is a description too loosely applied today. You can't just pick up a brush, or step on a stage or pick up a camera and proclaim that you are an Artist. My belief is that there are certain criteria one must have to be considered an Artist. An original approach, a sense of the contrast and balance of human existence, a drive to "leave it all on the field" when pursuing your craft- these are all some of the requirements to be considered an "Artist." Above all, however, is the need to reveal the truth through your art. To, as Shakespeare said, "hold the mirror up to nature" with your work. It is a simple course of action but, so difficult to achieve and so few alleged artists actually attempt it. It takes courage.

James Oligney is courageous. He has worked with me as a photographer on several occasions professionally in various situations and settings. His manner working with his subjects is graceful, easy and honest. It never seems like working. After witnessing his effortless and disarming approach while applying his craft I am always amazed at the meticulous beauty in the resulting photographs. "How did he do that?" It is the mystery of art. His understanding of light and dark, of shape and form and how to arrange them to reveal the truth and beauty of the moment - James is a rare craftsman with the camera. Not only is James Oligney a true professional, but, I consider him a true.. "Artist'.
